It all began some thirty years ago, when I arrived in eastern Provence. My work as a caving, climbing, and canyoning instructor led me to discover that, through wild nature, ancient traces left by people were revealed.
These people had managed to tame this land: dry-stone paths, terraced stone walls, stone huts, and many other abandoned remains—a forgotten heritage richness; a new passion was born! Self-taught, I became interested in finding the origins and understanding why and how these people shaped this “backcountry” to make it prosperous.
After a taste for unfathomable chasms and the thrill of the heights, I set myself the mission of showcasing this cultural and rural heritage, typical of the pre-Alpine and Mediterranean regions.
Situated at an altitude of 814 meters, Mons offers exceptional views over the Mediterranean coast, the Alps, and sometimes even Corsica in clear weather. This charming Provençal village is a true haven of peace where history and nature meet.
Its architectural heritage bears witness to centuries of existence, with Gallo-Roman remains, dry-stone huts, chapels, and picturesque lanes that tell the story of the place. Mons is also a destination for hiking enthusiasts, with numerous trails winding through the hills and the surrounding countryside.
Far from the bustle of the big cities, it offers an immersion in an authentic Provence, where calm and beautiful landscapes combine with cultural richness. Très belle découverte du patrimoine de Mons avec Philippe, un guide talentueux et passionné. Le temps passe très vite en sa compagnie lorsque qu'il nous plonge dans l'histoire avec ses anecdotes insolites. Une visite atypique dans un environnement magnifique !
