Pennautier Castle was built in 1620 by Bernard de Rech de Pennautier, Treasurer of the Estates of Languedoc. His distinguished office called for a residence worthy of his rank, and his castle had to be grand. In 1622, it welcomed King Louis XIII, who gave him his travelling furnishings. Today, Pennautier Castle is listed as a Historic Monument.

Pierre-Louis de Pennautier, his son, a powerful and refined man, in turn held the office of Treasurer of the Estates of Languedoc before becoming Receiver General of the Clergy of France, an even more important role. Highly regarded, he entrusted Le Vau, architect of Versailles, with the construction of the castle’s wings, and Le Nôtre with the design of the French-style gardens.

A witness to major moments in history, the family has developed winegrowing and excellence over the centuries. Today, the castle opens a window onto the French art of living. Fully restored in 2009 and listed as a Historic Monument, it combines the beauty of local heritage and the region, the charm of a family home, and the modern facilities of a site perfectly suited to receptions and the most memorable events.

Remarkable for its size and setting, the park reflects the evolution of styles, from the 17th-century French formal garden to the 19th-century English landscape park. Partially restored in the 20th century, it preserves many landscape features and includes a 1.7 km walk.

Labelled a “Remarkable Garden” and awarded in 2016 and 2017, it also houses the family chapel. Respect for the land and the environment is at the heart of the de Lorgeril family's commitment, through responsible viticulture certified High Environmental Value – Level 3.
