As soon as you pass through the gate, you enter the park and the grounds: the visible outline of the towers, the ramparts, the old arrow slits, and the keep with its medieval foundations. The guide, the castle owner, sets the scene: how, as early as the 11th century, the rocky spur served to protect Périgueux, and then how, in 1347, a fortress was built to block the invaders' access.
At the entrance, you step into the furnished enfilade of reception rooms: tapestries, antique furniture, and paintings from the 17th to the 19th centuries. You discover the library, the dining room, period objects, the original kitchen, all testimony to a seigneurial life passed down from generation to generation.
To extend the visit, the park and English-style garden offer a pleasant setting for a stroll: ancient trees, shaded paths, and a quiet space to picnic or simply soak up the surrounding silence. A gentle transition between the history-laden interior and the surrounding nature.
Throughout, the owner recounts the major stages in the castle's history: its episcopal origins, the wars, the Revolution, the restorations, and the successive families. Through anecdotes, architectural details, and family stories, the visit becomes an immersion in the living history of Périgord.

Gérard, +20 years of experience
Owner and host of the estate
The castle is lived in and brought to life by Gérard, its current owner. For several years, he has worked to preserve the spirit of the place, restore its spaces, and keep the estate's cultural vocation alive. His welcome is direct, simple, and warm, true to the image of a private castle that is still inhabited.
He personally leads the tours and gladly shares the main stages of the restoration, the architectural choices, the discoveries made over time, and the anecdotes connected to life at the castle. His approach is based on passing on an intimate experience built over time, showing how a historic residence continues to exist thanks to the daily commitment of its host.

Château-l'Évêque Castle overlooks its surroundings and stands in a peaceful Périgord landscape. Its silhouette, made up of medieval towers and facades marked by Renaissance additions, tells the story of overlapping periods. The whole estate unfolds around a central courtyard and a wooded park whose perspectives enhance the harmony of the grounds.
Originally, the castle served as a residence for the Bishops of Périgueux. It controlled a strategic area and asserted the spiritual and temporal power of its owners. Successive alterations softened the fortified structure and, over the centuries, turned it into a noble residence open to its surroundings.
Even today, the site preserves this dual nature: the medieval imprint of thick walls and defensive volumes, and the brighter aesthetic of Renaissance features. It is a castle to be appreciated as much for its lines as for the depth of history it carries. A calm, lived-in place, still in dialogue with its landscape and its past.
