Discovery Workshop in Welding and Art Ironwork
Métal4h1-2Lyon (Rhône - 69)
Activity details

Special workshops are offered for anyone who wants to get started in metalworking.

The content of these workshops has been designed for people wishing to learn the basics of the techniques for amateur use, or for those looking to improve their skills in certain areas.

You will enjoy a special experience and benefit from personalized guidance!

The artist’s technique consists of shaping iron through cutting, cold bending, and arc welding with an electrode.

This process makes it possible to create sculptures or large pieces such as gates, railings, stair handrails, as well as small decorative objects or furniture.

The finished work can be polished, painted, patinated, or left raw.

During this discovery workshop for adults, you will:

  • Learn how to use the various professional tools safely,
  • Discover, following proper craftsmanship methods, the techniques for cutting, drilling, and bending parts,
  • Learn the basics of arc welding with an electrode.

Please note that this is an introduction to art ironwork; in 4 hours, the workshop is designed to give you a very accurate overview of metalworking as a whole.

For a first introduction, the goals are:

  • To raise awareness of the hazards of the profession,
  • To provide you with a clear and relevant theoretical foundation through exercises (cutting/bending/welding),
  • To learn the right postures and movements that will allow you to practice the technique on your own in the best possible conditions.

For more focused work on welding, it is recommended to choose the longer 12-hour option, where all stages of the technique can be put into practice through the making of a steel stool.

The price of the 12-hour introductory workshop includes all three half-day sessions.

Booking only allows you to schedule the date of the first session.

Any following session must be arranged directly with the artist.

You will leave with a stool cut, bent, and welded by your own hands.

The raw materials and tools are provided.

⚠️ WARNING: this is not a fun or recreational experience.

There is a level of risk to consider at every stage.

Ahtzic places the utmost importance on safety instructions and always begins his classes by explaining to participants the correct movements, postures, and safety standards needed to minimize the risk of accidents as much as possible.

Your attention and active listening are essential to ensure your safety and his.

As a result, he reserves the right to stop the workshop if these instructions are not respected.

The artist sets a minimum and maximum age for participants so that the workshop can take place under the best possible conditions.

If you would like to offer this workshop to someone close to you, please take this information into account and make sure the gift recipient is able to meet the necessary conditions for this activity.

Steel is a material that must be worked with respect, caution, flexibility, a combination of hand movement and thought, a little patience, and above all your creativity.
