Artist-Author
I love drawing, and many of my works begin with a sketch. The silhouette of a cup, the pose of a figure, the expression — I work them out first in pencil. Then comes the material.
In my workshop, the two materials, wood and ceramic, coexist. My work with material (before that, I did virtual sculpture) began for me with wood. During a very rich year, I learned the techniques of ornamental sculptor’s work and the principles of bas-relief and sculpture in the round. I love sculpture, and I draw my inspiration from the veins of wood, the plasticity of clay, and the world around me: nature, human relationships, feelings.
Utility objects also fascinate me; I love throwing, and I am always amazed when a ball of clay takes the beautiful shape of an object. My current area of interest lies in combining wood and ceramics.
My workshop is small, and I often work in my living room. The workshop is equipped for ceramic work as well as wood carving. I have a ceramic kiln and a potter’s wheel. Throwing clay is fascinating. My greatest passion is sculpture in the round and bas-relief. The hands-on experience takes place in the living room of my house. My workshop is next door.
